DOE to make recommendation on Haleiwa school closure
A public hearing will be held tonight on a study examining whether to close Haleiwa Elementary School and consolidate it with Waialua Elementary and Waialua High and Intermediate Schools.
Following the public hearing, the Department of Education will make a recommendation to the Board of Education on the proposed schools consolidation.
The meeting is set for 6 p.m. at the Haleiwa Elementary School.
Testimony may be submitted at the hearing, the Department of Education’s Central Oahu District )office, 300 Kahelu Ave., #50, HI 96789, or e-mailed to doe_info@notes.k12.hi.us.
Testimonies, written or e-mailed, must be received no later than three business days after the public hearing.

The consolidation study report is available at http://doe.k12.hi.us under “School Consolidation Task Forces.” Free copies also are available between 7:45 a.m. and 4 p.m. Monday through Friday, excluding state holidays, at Haleiwa and Waialua Elementary Schools and Waialua High and Intermediate School offices and the DOE Central Oahu District Office.
