Black-tailed deer hunting season will begin on Kauai in September, the state Department of Land and Natural Resources announced.

Each hunter will be permitted to take only one antlered buck deer, three-inch antler minimum, during the season.

The deer archery season will be in sectors F and J from Sept. 18 through Oct. 31 on Saturday and Sundays only.

The deer muzzleloader tag season will be in sectors A and H on Sept. 18-19.

Kauai residents may acquire their permits starting today at the Lihue office, 3060 Eiwa St., Room 306. Hunters must present their 2010-11 Hawaii hunting license in order to obtain an archery or muzzleloader permit.

The regular rifle tag season for deer will be in sectors A and H for six  consecutive weekends beginning on Sept. 25 and ending Oct. 31. The tags will be awarded by  public drawing.
