As islands go, they prefer Garden Isle

Kauai has been named the second-best island in the world by Travel + Leisure, while Maui and the Big Island ranked eighth and 10th, respectively.

Atop the ratings is Galapagos, which is actually 18 Pacific islands – none of which is called Galapagos – about 600 miles west of Ecuador, which owns them. The rankings are based on reader surveys assessing natural attractions, activities, sights, restaurants, people and value.

Kids, stop watching and start doing

The trouble with resting on your laurels is that it can make you fat.

There might be entirely too much resting in Hawaii, even though overall this state fares better than most others in recent measures of obesity. Hawaii ranks 47th out of 50 states and D.C. in terms of adult obesity rates and 46th for children. But the juvenile rate is on the rise, along with time in front of the TV.

Looks like the first lady has a ready audience for her childhood obesity campaign. Trick is getting the kids to change channels.
