Anniversary celebration will last 3 days

Emmanuel Episcopal Church in Kailua is welcoming the community to help celebrate its 50th anniversary over three days beginning Friday.

The celebration will bring together the current congregation, old friends near and far, founding members and former priests, a news release said.

There will be free fun, food and fellowship on all three days. Those interested in attending any event should RSVP the office at 262-4548. Here is the schedule:

» Friday, 6:30 to 8 p.m., at Emmanuel Episcopal Church, 780 Keolu Drive
» Next Saturday, 9 a.m. to 3 p.m., Kalama Beach Club, 280 N. Kalaheo Ave.
» July 25, 9 a.m., Eucharist, Emmanuel Church

Church services were first held in 1960 at Maunawili Elementary School in Olomana, followed by a move to Kodama’s Store near Castle Medical Center a year later. Relocation to the church’s present site in Enchanted Lake occurred in 1964. Worship was held for 10 years in what is now the preschool building. A new sanctuary was built in late 1975.
