Four of the City Council’s nine seats are up for grabs this year due to term limits, although one vacancy already has been filled.

Former Board of Education member Breene Harimoto faces no opposition for the District VIII seat being vacated by Gary Okino. One other candidate pulled papers for a potential run but did not meet yesterday’s filing deadline.

Harimoto has represented the board’s Leeward district for eight years and served as chairman in 2004 and 2005.

In District II, three candidates are vying to replace Donovan Dela Cruz, while 10 candidates have filed for Rod Tam’s District VI seat.

Seven candidates have filed to run in District IV to succeed Lee Donohue, who was appointed as a replacement for the final seven months of Charles Djou’s term after he was elected to Congress in May.

Council terms expire on Jan. 2.
