Coast Guard flies sailor from Christmas Island to Honolulu

A Coast Guard HC-130 airlifted a 22-year-old Navy diver from Christmas Island to Tripler Army Medical Center after he began suffering from chest pains and respiratory distress.

The Coast Guard airplane was dispatched at 8:30 a.m. yesterday from Barbers Point Air Station to the island located about 550 miles south of Oahu. The Coast Guard command center here received a call for assistance about 8 p.m. Wednesday.

The patient arrived at Barbers Point at 5:30 p.m. and was transferred to Tripler Army Medical Center Hospital.
