16 architecture projects honored

Sixteen projects and architects received awards from the American Institute of Architects, Honolulu Chapter, at its 52nd Annual Design Awards this week at the Hawaii Prince Hotel.

The competition recognized the year’s best in built and unbuilt architectural projects.

 

AWARD OF EXCELLENCE:

» Hanahau’oli School Po’e Classroom & Administration Building. Architect Lorrin Matsunaga, AIA, of Urban Works.

» Hawaii Preparatory Academy Energy Laboratory. Architect David Croteau, AIA, of Flansburgh Architects.

» Juliet Wichman Botanical Research Center. Architect Dean Sakamoto, FAIA, of Dean Sakamoto Architects.

 

AWARD OF MERIT:

» Assembly House. Architect James Zak, AIA, of Zak Architecture.

» Finish Line House. Architect Jeffrey T. Long, AIA, of Long & Associates Architects and Interiors.

» Hawaiian Hall at Bishop Museum. Architect Glenn Mason, AIA, of Mason Architects.

» International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers Local Union. Architect William A. Brizee, AIA, of Architects Hawaii.

» Koa Kea Hotel & Resort. Architect Max Guenther, AIA, of Peter Vincent Architects.

» Manoa Makeover. Architect Robin Lee, AIA, of Robin Lee, AIA.

» McCully-Moiliili Fire Station. Architect Lorrin Matsunaga, AIA, of Urban Works.

» Trump International Hotel & Tower. Architect Masato Tochika, international associate AIA, of Benjamin Woo Architects.

 

UNBUILT AWARD:

Recognizing projects currently unfinished or purely theoretical work:

» Ka Haka ‘Ula o Ke’elikolani College of Hawaiian Language Building. Architect Robert Iopa, AIA, of WCIT Architecture.

 

MAYOR’S CHOICE AWARD:

» Kuhio Park Terrace & Kuhio Park Housing (unbuilt). Architect Francis Oda, FAIA, of Group 70 International.
