An argument over parking charges in Waikiki led to a broomstick brawl and the arrest of a 29-year-old Waianae man for assault, police said.

It happened at about 7:10 p.m. Saturday at the Waikiki Parking Garage at 333 Seaside Ave.

Police said the 29-year-old male parking attendant and the driver of a vehicle argued over the parking charge when the suspect got out of the front passenger seat and tried to pull the attendant out of the booth.

The attendant grabbed an aluminum broom and used it to try and fight off the suspect, police said. But the suspect took the broom away and hit the attendant over the head with it, police said.

Officers arrived to break up the fight. The suspect was arrested and the victim refused treatment at the scene for head injuries.
