Security guard credited in arrest

An alert security guard foiled an attempt by a 24-year-old man to use a stolen credit card at a Home Depot self-checkout counter in Iwilei.

Police said that at about 7:15 a.m. Tuesday, the 47-year-old security officer, who recognized the suspect from a previous arrest at the Alakawa Street store, saw him trying to use a credit card at the checkout scanner. Looking over the suspect’s shoulder, the guard noticed the name on the card was not the suspect’s and detained the man until police arrived.

Jose Reyes-Rivera, who has no local address, was charged with third-degree identity theft, fraudulent use of a credit card and unauthorized personal information.
