The Harry & Jeanette Weinberg Foundation is awarding $3 million to the nonprofit agency Housing Solutions Inc. to help provide housing in Waianae.

The funds will support the construction of 20 transitional studios and 30 long-term townhouses at Sea Wind Apartments due to open next year.

Funding for the $13.7 million project is also being provided by the city.

The city says the apartments will address a critical and urgent need for affordable rentals and transitional housing in Waianae.

The city says the project will directly benefit families now homeless or living in transitional housing.
