Big Isle man nabbed for allegedly stealing SUV

A 40-year-old old Big Island man was arrested yesterday for allegedly stealing a Jeep SUV last month.

Kona patrol officers responding to an unrelated incident in Honalo, encountered two men and a woman who were being sought in connection with the Jeep.

They arrested all three — including a 59-year-old man and a 31-year-old woman — but only charged Zachary Kanakanui. All the suspects are from Hilo.

The man and the woman were released pending investigation.

Kanakanui is being held at the Kona police cell block in lieu of $10,000 bail pending a court appearance, police said.
