Overturned car closes highway lanes

The northbound lanes of Kamehameha Highway between Kipapa Bridge and Lanikuhana Street in Mililani were closed for about an hour yesterday after a car overturned there.

The incident was reported at 3:47 p.m. Officers closed the road. Cars were contra-flowed through the southbound lanes. Officers reopened the northbound lanes about 4:45 p.m.

Kipapa Bridge connects Waipio Gentry and Mililani.

Dispute led to alleged death threats

A 26-year-old man arrested Tuesday was being held at Oahu Community Correctional Center in lieu of $75,000 bail for allegedly robbing and threatening two men last week.

Police said Randy Q. Gaoiran had gotten into an argument with the first victim over a business venture, threatened to kill him and took his cell phone.

Gaoiran later threatened to kill a second man while holding a screwdriver to his chest last Friday, police said.

Gaoiran then allegedly ordered the first victim to drive him to the airport. While in the interisland terminal parking lot, he held a knife with a 6- to 8-inch blade to the driver and ordered him to give up his wallet, keys and his Toyota Tacoma, police said.

The suspect was arrested Tuesday during a traffic stop on South Beretania Street.

Kaneohe man died in laundry chute

Police said a 47-year-old Kaneohe man who died in a laundry chute Monday was apparently trying to get into his house when he got stuck.

The man was found unresponsive at his Kaneohe Bay Drive home about 4:50 p.m. Monday, police said. One way to get into the unit in the two-story building was through the laundry chute, police said.

The Honolulu Medical Examiner’s Office identified the man as Keith Chinen and deferred listing a cause of death.
