A bicyclist hit by a vehicle in Kalihi last night died at the Queen’s Medical Center, police said today.

The man, 49, had no local address.

The collision happened at 7:42 p.m. near Dillingham Boulevard about 210 feet east of Middle Street.

Police said a gold 2004 multi-purpose vehicle driven by a 62-year-old Kalihi woman was headed east from the Airport Viaduct Dillingham off-ramp when the vehicle struck the victim who was riding a silver 2008 Giant 21-speed bicycle. Police have not determined which direction the bicycle was traveling.

The woman and her passenger, a 62-year-old Kalihi man, were not injured.

Police said the weather was cloudy and speed and alcohol do not appear to be factors for the driver of the multi-purpose vehicle. Traffic investigators are still trying to determine if the bicyclist had been drinking. He was not wearing a helmet, police said.

For a little more than two hours, police closed the Airport Viaduct Dillingham offramp and blocked traffic on southbound lanes on Middle Street, preventing traffic from going eastbound on Dillingham.
