The man killed when his pickup truck slammed into a tree in Waikane last night was identified by the Medical Examiner’s Office this afternoon as Andrew Guillermo, 33, of Kaneohe.

The crash happened at 10:39 p.m. and police shut down the highway in both directions until just before 1 a.m.

Police said Guillermo’s green 1998 Toyota pickup was Kaneohe-bound when he lost control of the vehicle. The truck hit a large tree on the makai side of the highway. Police said no other vehicles were involved and the driver was alone in the truck.

Guillermo, who was not wearing a seat belt, was taken to the Castle Medical Center where he was pronounced dead.
