Homeless man charged with alleged threats, shotgun blasts and theft in Waianae
A 51-year-old homeless man is scheduled to appear in Honolulu District Court today after he allegedly fired a stolen shotgun into the air and threatened to kill his ex-girlfriend at a homeless camp in Waianae.
Calvin Gulia was charged yesterday with first-degree terroristic threatening, second-degree terroristic threatening, first-degree reckless endangering, first-degree theft, a firearm charge, and three contempt warrants. He was being held on $20,000 bail.
Police said an argument Sunday between a man and a 54-year-old woman escalated and the man brought out a shotgun from his shack at the homeless camp and fired it in the air.
Police said the man went to the woman’s shack at the camp without the shotgun yesterday morning and threatened to kill her.
The woman fled and called police from a payphone at a nearby park.
When officers arrived, the man ran away and hid. Police located and arrested him yesterday at Keaau Beach Park. They recovered the shotgun, which police said was stolen in a burglary.
