Paddler remains hospitalized
A 25-year-old paddler from Oahu remains hospitalized after being run over by his escort boat during Sunday’s Molokai Hoe canoe race.
Luke Evslin told the Garden Island newspaper on Monday that he was in stable condition at Maui Memorial Medical Center.
Evslin says the accident happened as he jumped from the boat to make a three-person crew change. He says a wave hit the boat, sending it on top of him.
Evslin says he suffered wounds to his back and spine, a broken pelvis and a bruised kidney.
