Police investigate accident on the Moanalua Freeway at the Puuloa Road offramp. A car driven by an 78 year old woman collided with a truck. The woman was taken to the Tripler Medical Center in critical condition.

A 78-year-old Honolulu woman sustained critical head and body injuries when the car she was driving collided with a tractor-trailer and flipped over just before the Puuloa Road/Tripler Hospital west-bound off-ramp.

Paramedics treated the woman  at the scene and took her to Tripler Hospital in critical condition after the 7:20 a.m. crash.

Police traffic investigators said a 2005 Kenworth tractor-trailer was traveling along Kaua Street, which merges onto the freeway, when it was struck by the 1991 silver Camry trying to exit the freeway.

The Camry “became attached” to the front bumper of the truck, which stopped immediately, dislodging the Camry and flipping it into a concrete wall on the north side of the road. The Camry then came to rest on the safety zone between the freeway and the off-ramp.

The driver of the truck, 30, did not receive treatment.

The crash closed the far-right lane of Waianae-bound traffic on the freeway near the Puuloa exit for several hours. Freeway traffic was backed up on in both directions during rush hour.
