The fire department’s hazard materials team was summoned to Ko Olina harbor just after noon today to investigate a 55-gallon drum containing an unknown substance.

Also on the scene was a fire engine company, a spokesman said. Pacific Environmental Corporation, which provides emergency marine oil spill response and related environmental services, also responded to the  incident.

A vessel had towed the drum into the harbor and called authorities, the fire department said.
