Suspect in Friday’s Kapiolani shooting is indicted
An Oahu grand jury returned an indictment today charging the suspect in Friday’s Kapiolani Boulevard shooting with attempted murder.
Reynaldo Valdes-Paz, 36, remains in custody, unable to post $300,000 bail.
Police said Valdes-Paz was arguing with an acquaintance, 38-year-old Damon Jones, in a parking lot along Kapiolani Boulevard across from Hard Rock Cafe when he pulled out a handgun.
Valdes-Paz then chased after Jones and shot him in the back, said Vickie Kapp, deputy prosecutor. After Jones fell to the ground, Valdes-Paz stood over him and shot him two more times, once in each calf, Kapp said.
Police said Valdes-Paz then fled in a vehicle, but later turned himself in at Honolulu Police Department’s Pearl City Station.

A city ambulance transported Jones to the Queen’s Medical Center. A city spokesman said he was initially in critical condition but later improved.
Witnesses said the two men were arguing over a woman.
