Gunn loosens up his style in Ala Moana appearance
Tim Gunn presented a fashion show for the Liz Claiborne family of brands, Kate Spade, Juicy Couture and Lucky Brand Jeans on Saturday at Ala Moana’s Centerstage.
While here, the "Project Runway" guru proclaimed Hawaii "a rules-free zone" because the rules of fashion that apply to cities with four seasons just don’t apply here.
Appearing in a Banana Republic suit, no tie, he said it was a landmark moment because he never makes formal appearances without a tie.

Different from most shows, Gunn and Leah Salak, director of marketing and special events for Liz Claiborne, offered tips on wearing the styles and personalizing them with accessories.
To address consumers’ complaints that "I could never wear that," they brought up a couple of short women from the audience to wear pieces borrowed off the models’ bodies to show that one needn’t be tall or thin to make garments work. Looking good is a matter of fit, understanding proportions and optical illusions that make a person look taller or thinner than they are.
They followed up with a question-and-answer session that included answers to men’s dilemmas, women’s fit and trend issues, and questions about "Project Runway."
