Poljakova thrives for Hawaii tennis

Hawaii sophomore Katarina Poljakova won two matches to advance in the championship bracket of the USTA/ITA Regional Tennis Championships at San Diego yesterday.

Poljakova swept Jane Huh of Arizona 6-3, 6-3 in her first match, then dominated Estelle LaPorte of Loyola Marymount 6-0, 6-0. Poljakova will take on second-seeded Andrea Remynse of USC today.

Seven other Rainbow Wahine lost in the first two rounds.

Barbara Pinterova teamed with Poljakova to win a doubles match, while UH’s Alyssa Nafarrete and Aglae Van den Bergh also advanced.

Sea Warriors smack Silverswords

Kelly Balanay had 11 kills and only three errors as Hawaii Pacific swept Chaminade 25-19, 25-23, 25-19 last night at St. Andrew’s Priory.

The Sea Warriors had 10 different players register kills and hit only .193 but held the Silverswords to a .121. hitting percentage.

Poerava Gantt led Chaminade with 11 kills.

The Sea Warriors improved to 12-4, while the Silverswords dropped to 4-12.
