Gunshot during brawl leads to man’s arrest

Police arrested a 21-year-old man after he allegedly fired a gun into the air during an early-morning street brawl on the corner of Sheridan and Rycroft streets.

The fight, which was reported just after 4 a.m., involved about 30 people and spilled into the roadway. The crowd dispersed after the shot was fired, police said.

Police recovered the gun and arrested the suspect at the scene.

The incident took place at the same intersection — the hub of several bars and restaurants behind the HMSA building and Walmart —  where a police officer shot and wounded a man involved in another early morning altercation two months ago.

In that case, the suspect was allegedly handling a gun in a threatening manner after he and another man got into an argument with four other men.
