A meeting is scheduled for early next year to revisit a small hotel proposed for preservation land in Haleiwa.

The North Shore Neighborhood Board voted yesterday to hold a special meeting after a packed meeting last month was abruptly adjourned after an opponent spoke out of turn. 

Developer D.G. “Andy” Anderson expressed interest of constructing a replica of the historic Haleiwa Hotel and a park on the preservation parcels next to Jameson’s By The Sea Restaurant. Anderson, who recently acquired the land under Jameson’s, said the hotel would generate jobs and more property taxes. Opponents say there’s a scarcity of public land and a that hotel at the site would increase traffic on Kamehameha Highway. 

The city is preparing to sell the parcels to adjoinging property owners Anderson and Kamehameha Schools, which was still mulling over the city’s offer, a spokeswoman for the estate said.

A date and site for next year’s meeting has yet to be set. Board Chairman Mike Lyons said he plans to hold the meeting in either January or February. Members are looking for a larger venue to accommodate the number of people that’s anticipated to attend the meeting.
