More than 900 customers, including Kapiolani Community College, were without electricity for nearly an hour this morning, according to Hawaiian Electric.

The outage occurred at 9:11 a.m. and was centered around 9th Avenue and the Diamond Head area. Power was restored at 10:01 a.m., said Darren Pai, the Hawaiian Electric Co. spokesman.

Most classes at KCC were held as scheduled, said Carol Hoshiko, a spokeswoman for KCC. She said some classes, which need electricity may have been canceled.

Leahi Hospital at 3675 Kilauea Ave., across the street from the community college was not affected.

Pai said the cause of the outage is under investigation.
