Vulcans second at Rose tournament
Hawaii-Hilo placed second in the Dennis Rose Intercollegiate men’s golf tournament yesterday at the Waikoloa Kings’ Course.
The host Vulcans finished at 6-over 870, two strokes behind Cal State Monterey Bay (4-over-868).
Hawaii Pacific (41-over 905) placed eighth and Brigham Young-Hawaii (61-over 925) took 10th out of 11 teams.
Individually, Chris Shimomura, Christian Agosto and Neil Cabico led the way for UHH. Shimomura and Agosto were in a group of five tied for third at 1-under 215.
Oskar Nystrom of Cal State Monterey Bay was the individual winner at 5-under 211 after yesterday’s 1-under 71.
» In the Dennis Rose Intercollegiate women’s tournament, Hawaii-Hilo finished in second place out of four teams at 926, 12 shots behind Grand Canyon at the Waikoloa Beach Course.

Nicole Aoki of the Vulcans tied for second at 17-over 227 and teammate Dayna Bersamin placed fourth at 18-over 228.
Aoki was one shot behind medalist Tiffany Heweston of Grand Canyon (16-over 226).
Hawaii Pacific sweeps BYU-Hawaii
Amber Fuller scored the game-winning goal in the 18th minute, giving the HPU women’s soccer team a 2-1 victory over BYU-Hawaii yesterday, handing the Seasiders their first loss of the season.
Meghan Fuller scored in the 16th minute after BYU-Hawaii (13-1-2, 11-1-1 Pacific West Conference) took a 1-0 lead on a goal from Natalie Cude.
HPU improved to 8-8 and 8-5.
» On the men’s side, goals by Chance Bukoski and Kimo Komomua gave HPU a 2-0 victory over BYU-Hawaii.
The Sea Warriors improved to 11-6 overall and 10-3 in PacWest play, while HPU fell to 2-13-1 and 2-10-1.
