A young girl apparently drowned in her family’s swimming pool in Hawaii Kai this morning, a city official said.

Bryan Cheplic, spokesman for the Emergency Services Department, said paramedics were called to the house shortly after 8 a.m.

The girl, age 5 or younger, had been found floating face down in the pool, Cheplic said.

The family was performing cardiopulmonary resuscitation when emergency crews arrived, he said.

The girl was transported in critical condition to a local hospital, where she was pronounced dead, Cheplic said.
