Emergency services workers honored for saving paddleboarder
Four emergency services workers have been honored for helping save a paddleboarder in waters off Pokai Bay last month.
Lifesaver awards were presented this week by Mayor Peter Carlisle to paramedic Floyd Castellano, emergency medical technician Natasha Hee, and water safety officers Mike Eckart and Dan Zukoski. Eckart and Zukoski helped the patient, who experienced a sudden cardiac emergency, from the water and administered care until emergency services personnel arrived. Castellano and Hee treated the patient and took him to the hospital.
The patient, Duane Nishimura, has since made a full recovery, and was present yesterday to shake hands with his rescuers.
