LEE AT "THE PIPE" 1. Dante Guagliardo, left, Oahu League operator of the American Poolplayers Association, joined Jed Roa in welcoming billiards star Jeanette "The Black Widow" Lee and her daughter, Savannah Lee Breedlove, as she came out to meet her fans Nov. 13 at Pipeline Cafe. Lee, who has undergone 10 surgeries related to spinal problems, opened her show by talking a little about herself and the importance of "being relentless about continuing on. ... Every single day something's gonna want to beat us down, and you just got to get up and keep going."

XMAS EARLY AT MVT 4. Manoa Valley Theatre associate producer Bree Bumatai got some love from cast members Braddoc DeCaires (Leading Man), left, and Joseph Peach Graves (Young Leading Man) at the post-show reception for "A Christmas Carol" Nov. 11 at MVT. DeCaires and Graves have showcase roles in this play-within-a-play version of Dickens' classic — DeCaires is Bob Cratchit and Graves plays Scrooge's nephew.

"DEAD" OPENS AT HPU 3. Director Joyce Maltby, second left, celebrated with cast members Sara Cate Langham, left, Madeline Ruhl and Rob Duval at the opening night party for "Is He Dead?" Nov. 12 at Hawaii Pacific University. Duval stars as a starving artist who fakes his death so that his paintings will become more valuable. Langham and Ruhl — both HPU students — have major supporting roles.
