1. OH MY, PAIPAI
» Situation: Hawaii 7, San Jose State 0, 7:10 remaining, first quarter, San Jose State ball, first and 10 at own 45
» The Play: DE Paipai Falemalu hits QB Jordan La Secla on his blind side, knocking the ball loose. It is recovered by RB Brandon Rutley 16 yards behind the line of scrimmage.
» Impact: After Hawaii scored on its third series, San Jose State got decent field position and moved the ball on its first two plays. But this big sack — one of eight by Hawaii and three by Falemalu — put the visitors in a big hole. San Jose State never quite recovered and managed just 164 yards for the game.
» Falemalu: "I was surprised he got up a couple of times."

2. WHAT BROWN CAN DO FOR YOU
» Situation: Hawaii 10, San Jose State 0, 13:28 remaining, second quarter, San Jose State ball, third and 5 at own 24
» The Play: LB Aaron Brown intercepts La Secla’s pass and returns it 22 yards for a Hawaii touchdown.
» Impact: The first of Brown’s two interceptions gives Hawaii a 17-0 lead, and Hawaii got a field goal off the second one. San Jose State failed to score any points off three Hawaii turnovers. Hawaii is tied for third in the nation with 18 interceptions.
» Brown: "Right place, right time. I got my hands on passes before and didn’t execute. This time, I wanted to make sure I secured the ball. It all goes back to the blitzing. I love it when we blitz. It’s a way of making a statement."

3. BACK TO NORMAL
» Situation: Hawaii 17, San Jose State 7, 5:03 remaining, second quarter, Hawaii ball, first and 10 at 50
» The Play: QB Bryant Moniz throws a 47-yard pass to SB Greg Salas, who is wide open across the middle.
» Impact: The play set up RB Alex Green’s touchdown run on the next snap. After two receptions at Boise State, Salas caught eight passes for 144 yards, including a third-quarter touchdown. He is 73 yards behind Jason Rivers’ school record of 3,919 career receiving yards.
» Salas: "I had to get that taste out of my mouth. It’s finally nice to get out on the field and get back to what we’re used to."

4. SWAT TEAM
» Situation: Hawaii 27, San Jose State 7, 6:19 remaining, third quarter, San Jose State ball, fourth and 1 at own 47
» The Play: La Secla’s pass is batted down at the line of scrimmage by DT Kaniela Tuipulotu.
» Impact: Following one of eight pass breakups by Hawaii, San Jose State turns the ball over on downs. San Jose State gets the ball four more times, but penetrates to the Hawaii side of the field just once, on the last series of the game.
» San Jose State coach Mike MacIntyre: "Defensively they smothered us pretty well. We did not handle some of their pressure. … (Hawaii’s) two inside guys are really good, they push the pocket really well. They’re very good players."

5. RECORD BREAKER

» The Play: Moniz completes a pass for 10 yards to WR Rodney Bradley.
» Impact: The completion gives Moniz 560 passing yards in the game. It breaks the program’s single-game mark of 559, set by Colt Brennan in the 2006 Hawaii Bowl against Arizona State.
» Moniz: "It’s such an honor and so awesome with all the names that came through here. Rolovich, Dan Robinson, Colt, Timmy Chang. All these guys you look up to growing up. I never thought I’d be playing here and now to kind of put my name there is awesome."
