Police said this man robbed the Kunia branch of Bank of Hawaii at 94-661 Kupuohi St. on Sept. 1.

Police are still searching for a bank robber who robbed three banks since May.

A 39-year-old Waipahu man, who was arrested Tuesday in connection with the robberies, was released yesterday, said Honolulu Detective Kevin Wong.

The man’s name surfaced because he fit the description, but detectives no longer think he is a suspect, he said.

Police arrested the man at his Waipahu home about 3:50 p.m. yesterday.

On Friday at 9:48 a.m., a man carrying a gun approached a teller at Bank of Hawaii on Kupuohi Street and demanded money, police said.

Police believe the man may be responsible for robbing the same branch on Sept. 1 and the North King Street branch of American Savings Bank on May 26.

The robber is described as in his 40s, 5 feet 4 inches tall, and 180 pounds.

Wong said police are asking for the public’s help to find the robber. Anyone with information is asked to call police at 955-8300 or *CRIME from a cell phone.
