Amateurs take lead in Burns challenge
The amateurs got a big jump on the professionals going into today’s final day of the Gov. John A. Burns Challenge Cup golf tournament at Mid-Pacific Country Club.
The amateurs hold a 7 1/2 to 4 1/2 advantage after yesterday’s six matches of four-ball in the morning and six matches of foursomes in the afternoon.
Three amateur teams won both of their matches — Todd Rego and Matthew Ma, Aaron Kunimoto and Lorens Chan, and Jonathan Ota and TJ Kua.
Beau Yokomoto and Regan Lee were the only professional team to win two matches. They tipped Brandan Kop and Royden Heirakuji 2 and 1 in the morning and 1 up in the afternoon.
Individual matches are today.
