Hirono: Tax cut plan should not reach House floor
U.S. Rep. Mazie Hirono of Hawaii is saying the House should not vote on the tax cut compromise as brokered by President Barack Obama and Republican congressional leaders.
A spokesman for Hirono, a Democrat who represents the state’s 2nd Congressional District, confirmed that she supported a nonbinding motion opposing a floor vote on the current tax accord during a closed-door caucus of House Democrats Thursday.
It was not clear, however, if Hirono would also oppose the compromise as now written if a floor vote were held.
Republican Rep. Charles Djou of Hawaii’s 1st Congressional District supports the pact. So do Democratic Sens. Daniel Akaka and Daniel Inouye, though reluctantly.
