Hikers rescued in rainforest near Pu’u O’o volcano
Big Island firefighters rescued two hikers who wandered off the trail to the Pu’u O’o volcano and got lost in the rainforest yesterday afternoon.
The Fire Department helicopter located the men, ages 28 and 36, but wasn’t able to fly them out because of the weather.
A rescue crew hiked in on the main trail and then cut a path through the fern and ohia forest to reach them last night.
The men were not injured.
