Big Island crash leaves moped riders in critical condition
A young man and a teen-age girl suffered “multiple traumatic injuries” in Kailua-Kona last night when their moped hit a Ford F-350 truck, Big Island firefighters said.
The truck was heading south on Queen Kaahumanu Highway and making a left turn onto Kealakehe Parkway around 6:30 p.m. when it collided with the moped, driven by a man in his 20s, firefighters said.
Both the driver and his female, teen-aged passenger were found unconscious in the intersection of Queen Kaahumanu Highway and Kealakehe Parkway.
Drivers were assisting the injured moped riders when firefighters and paramedics arrived. Both the man and girl were taken to Kona Hospital in critical condition.
