A woman was stabbed to death by a relative at their home in Kalihi this morning, police said.

The woman, 64,  was found lying on the kitchen floor of her home on the 1300 block of Arsenal Street, near Middle Street, around 6:15 a.m. police said.

An 80-year-old man, whom police said is a relative, turned himself in at Honolulu Police Department headquarters around 12:45 p.m. He is being held pending charges of second-degree murder.

The woman, who was taken in critical condition to the Queen’s Medical Center, was pronounced dead at 2:35 p.m., police said.

There are conflicting reports of the exact relationship between the victim and the suspect.

A police highlight said a 46-year-old woman living in the house heard screaming, ran downstairs to the first-floor and saw her aunt lying on the kitchen floor bleeding and holding her stomach. The witness also saw her father standing over the victim holding a kitchen knife, the report said. The suspect then ran out of the house and fled in an unknown direction, the report said.

The highlight, however, also said the suspect is believed to be the victim’s father-in-law.
