Vikings do not plan to put Favre on season-ending IR

EDEN PRAIRIE, Minn. » Minnesota Vikings coach Leslie Frazier is not yet ruling Brett Favre out for the rest of the season.

Frazier says it is unlikely the 41-year-old quarterback will play on Sunday at Philadelphia. He says he will not put Favre on season-ending injured reserve after he suffered a concussion in the loss to the Chicago Bears on Monday night.

The Vikings are assured of their first losing season since 2006. As they limp to the finish of this long and crazy year, it is still uncertain if Favre will take the field again — for them or anyone else.

The Vikings have been outscored 61-17 in their last two games, embarrassing performances that have put many jobs at risk for next season.

Frazier says the team has not quit and he remains confident they will play hard in the final two games.

McNabb felt ‘disrespected’

Donovan McNabb felt disrespected by the way he was benched by Washington Redskins coach Mike Shanahan.

"Everything was handled awkwardly," McNabb said yesterday on his weekly radio show on ESPN980, "somewhat of a disrespect to me and to the team."

Making his first public comments since his demotion last week, McNabb said he strongly disagreed with the decision, but he has a bigger problem with the way he says the organization leaked the news to the media before informing him.

"Because of the timing and because of all the leaks and everything that was put out there, and no putting out the fire, so to speak," McNabb said, "I’m hearing everything through the media."

Shanahan waited until Thursday evening to tell McNabb that Rex Grossman would be the starter for the rest of the season.

"I was pulled back by it. All of a sudden you get this news a couple of days before the game, you do feel somewhat disrespected," McNabb said. "You could have told me earlier or at least prepared me for it. … The term I did use was professional. You would like to hear it early, and if you hear it late, it kind of throws off the preparation for a lot of guys."

McNabb said he wasn’t even aware that he was being demoted to No. 3 quarterback for the final two games of the season until Shanahan announced the move to reporters.

Cowboys put Romo on IR

Dallas Cowboys quarterback Tony Romo has been placed on season-ending injured reserve.

The team announced the move yesterday. Romo broke his left collarbone Oct. 25 and hasn’t played since. The Cowboys play Saturday at Arizona and will likely start Jon Kitna, who has gone 4-4 in place of Romo. Dallas has only two games left and can’t make the playoffs.

Owner Jerry Jones had hoped Romo could return from the broken bone on his nonthrowing side.

Browns place two on IR

The Cleveland Browns placed linebacker and defensive captain Scott Fujita and cornerback Eric Wright on injured reserve.

Fujita hasn’t played since straining a left knee ligament on Nov. 14 against the New York Jets. Wright’s trip to IR ends a turbulent season for the four-year veteran. He injured his left knee in Sunday’s loss at Cincinnati. Wright was beaten for several touchdowns earlier this season and eventually lost his starting job to rookie Joe Haden.
