Diamond Head Classic seventh-place game: San Diego 67, Utah 64

San Diego claimed seventh-place in the Hawaiian Airlines Diamond Head Classic with a 67-64 win over Utah this morning at the Stan Sheriff Center.
Jordan Mackie led the Toreros (3-10) with 14 points and guard Devin Ginty hit five free throws in the final 26 seconds to preserve the win.
Utah forward Will Clyburn led all scorers with 19 points on 6-for-10 shooting. Center Jason Washburn had a season-high 16 for the Utes (7-6) before fouling out late in the game.
San Diego shot 64 percent from the field before the break and took a 35-30 lead into halftime.
The Toreros stretched the lead to 44-32 early in the second half before the Utes put together a 31-1 spurt and tied the game on Clyburn’s jumper in the lane.
San Diego moved ahead again and Clyburn answered for the Utes’ by hitting a 3-pointer from the right side to tie the game at 58 with 3:58 left.
San Diego center Chris Manresa made two free throws with 1:04 left to give the Toreros a 62-60 edge.
After a Utah time out, Clyburn missed a 3-pointer and Shawn Glover couldn’t get a putback to drop. Devin Ginty gathered the rebound and was fouled.
Ginty made one of two free throws and added four more down the stretch to answer inside buckets by Utah’s Jay Watkins and the Utes’ desperation shot at the buzzer was off the mark.
