Judge increases bail for man accused in fatal stabbing

An 80-year-old man accused of fatally stabbing his 64-year-old sister-in-law in the woman’s Kalihi home has been threatening other family members, said Leah Takeuchi, deputy prosecutor.

Circuit Judge Richard Perkins granted requests by Takeuchi yesterday to increase bail for Benjamin Lucas to $250,000 from $100,000 and to issue a no-contact order.

An Oahu grand jury returned an indictment yesterday charging Lucas with second-degree murder in the Dec. 22 death of Marcelina Delacruz.

Police said Lucas stabbed Delacruz in the abdomen during an argument.

Lucas’s 46-year-old daughter told police she did not see the stabbing but found her father holding a knife and standing over her aunt, who was lying in a pool of blood. Lucas fled but later turned himself in to police.
