WOMEN’S SOCCER

» Penn State forward Tani Costa (Kalani ’09) was named Women’s College Player of the Year by Philly Soccer News. She also is among the finalists for the Soccer News Network National player of the Year, which will be announced tomorrow. Costa led the Nittany Lions with nine goals and five assists. Three of her goals were game-winners, as she helped the Nittany Lions to a share of the Big Ten regular season title.

 

MEN’S BASKETBALL

» Trinity (Texas) guard Matt Feldman (Punahou ’10) finished with six points, five assists, two rebounds and a steal in a 90-80 win over Austin College on Sunday to give the Tigers their first conference win of the season.

 

WOMEN’S BASKETBALL

» Utah guard Iwalani Rodrigues (Kalani ’08) scored a game-high 19 points, including three 3-pointers, in a 73-61 win over Utah State on Saturday.

» Cal State Northridge forward Analee Viena-Lota (Kamehameha ’07) scored a game-high 18 points on 6-for-11 shooting to help the Matadors win their first game of the year, 74-68 in overtime over Pacific (Calif.) on Friday. Janelle Nomura (Punahou ’09) added nine points and two assists and Violet Alama (Kalani ’09) scored 17 points on 6-for-10 shooting off the bench for the Matadors.

» UNLV’s Jamie Smith (‘Iolani ’08) had 15 points and four rebounds in a 63-48 win over Hawaii on Thursday to win the Pepsi Rainbow Wahine Invitational. Smith averaged 10 points and 5.3 rebounds in three games.

 

FOOTBALL

» Brigham Young’s Travis Uale (Kamehameha ’05) started at free safety and assisted on a tackle and broke up a pass in a 52-24 victory over UTEP in the New Mexico Bowl on Dec. 18. Receiver Spencer Hafoka (Kahuku ’05) had a 4-yard reception for the Cougars (7-6), who won five of their last six games.

» San Diego State’s Trask Iosefa (Punahou ’05) started his 49th and final game on the offensive line for the Aztecs in a 35-14 win over Navy in the Poinsettia Bowl on Dec. 23. J.J. Autele (Punahou ’07) assisted on a tackle for the Aztecs, while Aaron Santiago (Kapolei ’07) rushed four times for 27 yards and had a 16-yard reception for the Midshipmen.

» Arizona defensive tackle Lolomana Mikaele (Damien ’06) made two solo tackles, including one for loss, in a 36-10 loss to Oklahoma State in the Alamo Bowl on Dec. 29.

» Washington defensive end Hau’oli Jamora (Kahuku ’10) made four tackles, including three for loss, and recorded a sack in a 19-7 win over Nebraska in the Holiday Bowl on Thursday. Safety Taz Stevenson (Mililani ’10) added two solo tackles and Kalani Aldrich (Kamehameha-Hawaii ’07) had a tackle for loss for the Huskies (7-6), who finished with a winning record for the first time in eight years.

» Notre Dame linebacker Manti Te’o (Punahou ’09) made six tackles and broke up a pass in a 33-17 victory over Miami in the Sun Bowl on Friday.

» Texas Tech linebacker Sam Fehoko (Farrington ’07) finished with five tackles and a sack in a 45-38 victory over Northwestern in the TicketCity Bowl Saturday.

» Stanford defensive end Matt Masifilo (Campbell ’07) finished with two tackles, including a key stop on fourth down, to help the Cardinal beat Virginia Tech 40-12 Monday in the Orange Bowl.
