Miss Hawaii Jalee Fuselier won the lifestyle and fitness competition in the 2011 Miss America Pageant in Las Vegas Tuesday evening.

The 22-year-old Hawaii Pacific University graduate from Haleiwa will receive a $1,000 scholarship for her win.

Miss North Carolina Adrienne Core won the talent competition.

The finals of the scholarship and community service competition will be broadcast at 8 p.m. Saturday on KITV.

"We are very proud of our representative’s initial success at the pageant," said Miss Hawaii Organization President Lincoln Jacobe. "Jalee has worked very, very hard to achieve this success and has accomplished a great deal so far and we continue to support her during this week of competition."

Fuselier is the founder of U.S. Dream Academy Hawaii, which awards scholarships to students for performing community service. She has participated in community service in 21 countries and 10 states, including helping build housing for orphans in Uganda and doing volunteer work in Thailand after the deadly 2004 tsunami.
