Kamehameha Schools and developer D.G. "Andy" Anderson have offered competing proposals for land adjacent to Jameson's By the Sea Restaurant in Haleiwa, shown above.

The North Shore Neighborhood Board will hold a Feb. 2 special public meeting on the future of six city parcels on Kamehameha Highway in Haleiwa.

The city is considering selling the land on the mauka side of Kamehameha Highway to abutting property owners: developer D.G. "Andy" Anderson or Kamehameha Schools.

Anderson has proposed a boutique hotel and a park for public use on the property. Kamehameha Schools says it wants to buy the land for educational and park purposes.

The 7 p.m. meeting will be held at the Waialua Community Association at 66-434 Kamehameha Highway. Board members voted to hold the Feb. 2 meeting after a packed neighborhood board meeting in October was abruptly adjourned after an opponent spoke out of turn about the hotel proposal.

Anderson said he has yet to decide whether he will attend the meeting. Kamehameha Schools officials plan to attend. Officials from the Trust for Public Land were invited and area lawmakers as well as members of the Save Haleiwa Beach Park Coalition are expected to be at the meeting.

The decision to hold the meeting at the community association was made to accommodate a large number of people.

The board’s regularly scheduled monthly meeting is Jan. 25 at the John Kalili Surf Center at Haleiwa Alii Beach Park.
