Big Island woman rescued after falling into old cesspool

A Big Island woman had to be rescued after she fell into an old unused cesspool in a Hawaiian Paradise Park yard.

Daisy Lopez Villalobos was on her second day on the job as a home health aide Thursday when her client asked her to fetch a mop.

As she walked back with it through the grass, the world suddenly dropped out from under her.

The Hawaii Tribune-Herald reported she fell an estimated 10 to 15 feet.

Her client called 911. Firefighters and police lowered a harness and ladder to help her climb out of the hole.

Villalobos suffered cuts and bruises. She thought she fell into a lava tube, but authorities found it was a cesspool after examining the hole.

(EDITOR’S NOTE: An earlier version of this story inaccurately reported Villalobos fell into a lava tube).
