U.S. marshal deputies apprehended a man in Wahiawa today wanted on suspicion of failing to register as a sex offender.

Glenn W. Botelho Jr. was located at the Wahiawa police substation at 10:20 a.m. 

Botelho was convicted in April 2000 in U.S. District Court in Hawaii of one count of abusive sexual contact with a person under the age of 12. 

After serving six years, Botelho was released on federal probation. One condition of his release was to register for life as a convicted sex offender, which he has failed to do since 2008, the U.S. Marshals Service said.

U.S. marshals investigated him after learning of his noncompliance status and pursued a federal grand jury arrest warrant on Jan. 20.

The Adam Walsh Task Force, led by marshals along with Hawaii sheriff deputies, made the arrest. The task force is a result of the Adam Walsh Act and is part of a strategy to ensure the safety of children across the country.
