Learn how to minister to patients with cancer

Interfaith Conversations Windward is sponsoring "Ministering to the Cancer Survivor" Monday at Pohai Nani in Kaneohe.

The newly created Hawaii Cancer Care Alliance is trying to fill the gaps in cancer care by "promoting the positive healing role of religion in public life," an announcement said. The meeting is from 1 to 2:15 p.m. in the Club Room on the second floor at 45-090 Namoku St.

Coordinators Mary Kaye Ritz and Lana Sue Ka’opua are building a network of oncology experts and spiritual directors to help patients deal with their emotions and the universal questions about fate and blame.

Ritz, a Catholic, was the religion editor for the Honolulu Advertiser and a cancer survivor. Ka’opua is a social worker and a breast cancer researcher.

Call the Rev. Sam Cox at 779-3606 or Chaplain Danette Kong at 236-7814, or visit www.interfaithalliancehawaii.org.
