Leeward residents asked to conserve water

Leeward coast residents from Honokai Hale to Makaha are being asked to use water sparingly and for priority needs only while the Board of Water Supply works on a 24-inch water main break on Farrington Highway near Makaiwa Beach Park.

The break near 92-426 Farrington Highway occurred at 3:15 p.m. yesterday, leaving 12 customers without water.

Crews completed repairs to the pipe this afternoon but the water conservation appeal was still in effect as the pipe remained out of service this afternoon.

The right, Honolulu-bound lane will remain closed as crews work to backfill the hole and repair the roadway. Officials hope to have the lane back in service by the Thursday morning rush hour.

The 24-inch water main brings about 60 percent of the water to the Leeward Coast.
