All lanes of Farrington Highway near the entrance to the Waimanalo Gulch landfill have re-opened after a water main broke twice in two days.

The main broke near 92-426 Farrington Highway at 3:15 p.m. Tuesday, leaving 12 customers without water. The main broke again yesterday as crews worked to restore service, a Board of Water Supply spokesman said.

Leeward coast residents from Honokai Hale to Makaha are still being asked to use water sparingly and for priority needs only while the Board of Water Supply re-charges its reservoirs.

The 24-inch water main brings about 60 percent of the water to the Leeward Coast.

The main was fixed early this morning, but crews remained on scene fixing the roadway until about noon today.
