UH Warriors already on the radar
The 2011 football season is still seven months away, but the University of Hawaii is already receiving national attention.
Foremost is the selection of quarterback Bryant Moniz to Heismanpundit.com’s first Heisman Trophy Watch List.
Meanwhile, stats show the Warriors not only had the country’s most productive passing offense last year (394 yards per game), but its most explosive as well (with 103 plays gaining 20 yards or more).
The winner of the Heisman will be announced Dec. 10. But the date that should be foremost on Warrior fans’ minds is Sept. 3 — the season opener against Colorado.
Hawaii stays loyal to Obama
President Barack Obama’s approval ratings have plunged from coast to coast, but Hawaii residents are sticking with the native son. Nationally, Gallup Poll indicates that the president’s approval rating fell last year to 47 percent, down 11 percentage points from 2009.
Meanwhile, Obama’s approval rating in Hawaii slipped by less than 5 percent, the third-smallest slip from 2009, to 65.9 percent — and that’s a whopping 8.3 percent more than runner-up Obama supporter Maryland.
