Moped rider with rifle arrested for firearms violations

A Waipahu man flagged down by a police officer for riding a dirt bike without a license plate was arrested Monday night for carrying a rifle that was protruding from the top of his backpack.

The man, 50, was being held pending charges of carrying a firearm illegally, possessing an unregistered firearm and driving without a license. The arrest was made at 9:30 p.m.
