Police searching for Kauai convenience store robbery suspect

Police are searching for a man who allegedly robbed a Kauai convenience store yesterday. 

At about 1:19 p.m. at the Thrifty Mart in Kaumakani, a gunman entered the store and approached the counter after selecting an item. Police said he pointed a handgun at the cashier and demanded money. 

The cashier hid and the suspect fled in an unknown direction. No items or money were reported missing.

The would-be robber is described as 5-foot-9 inches tall, 180 to 200 pounds. Police said he is believed to be in his early-to-mid 20s. He was wearing dark clothing and sun glasses at the time of the robbery. 

Anyone with information is asked to call Det. James Kurasaki on Kauai at 241-1901, police dispatch at 241-1711 or CrimeStoppers at 241-1887.
