CU-Boulder students in Japan reported to be OK
BOULDER, Colo. (AP) — Fourteen University of Colorado-Boulder students studying in Japan have been accounted for and are all right.
University officials said Friday that the students are in three cities — Akita City in northwestern Japan; Osaka in southern Japan; and Tokyo.
None of the three campuses suffered severe structural damage from the severe earthquake that struck the country’s northeastern shore, the biggest recorded quake ever to hit Japan.
CU officials say 11 of the 14 students have directly confirmed with the school that they are unharmed. Third parties have said the other three are OK, but the school is trying to contact them.
The school says cell phone and Internet coverage in Japan remain spotty.
